Carfax Abbey

These guys are outta Phillie. Kinda outside our Philadelphians' circle, though- goth/industrial band. Pretty mint- they managed an absolutely smokin' cover of Cry Little Sister. Check 'em out on MySpace (yes, you can visit the site for things other than picking up underagers) at Carfax Abbey

Through a glass, smartly

Haven't had anything post worthy lately, but ran across a series that I feel I gotta recommend. It's got librarian written all over it (no, not really. If you find a copy with librarian written all over it, call it to the bookseller's attention and get a new one).

Anywho, the series, and i use the term kinda loosely, is The Looking Glass War, and its associated comic Hatter M. The Mad Hatter of the comic is actually a secret agent for Wonderland, and is set loose in the real world to look for Alyss Hart, the princess of Wonderland who was betrayed by Alice. Tell ya, this guy's got more blades than a Cuisinart. Beddor's writing this format, as well, and Ben Templesmith's the artist on it, too, so ya know yer in fer some good pichers.

The book was a smash hit in the UK in '04, and has just recently arrived in the States. Frank Beddor is currently writing Seeing Redd, the second book of what's supposed to be a trilogy. Haven't picked up the book yet (it's still in hardcover), but from what I've seen of Hatter M, and the excerpts I've read, it's gonna be sweet.

Here's some links that'll tell ya a little more:

Broadband Bard

This should be of interest to the Theatre majors among us (okay, Katie, I guess that's only you). Some prof at Indiana University just got a $240,000 grant to build an MMO based on Shakespeare. Wonder if you get to PvP the Bard himself, instead of just offing your fellow players in various Elizabethan ways?

Missouri Library Pulls “Porn” Manga from Shelves

If you can't afford to put staff on evaluating manga to match community and library standards, don't friggin' collect it. This kinda shit's just bad press for the graphical format world.

Bringin' the 80s

screamin' back. What do ya get when ya cross Bollywood with Michael Jackson? No, no, it has nothing to do with eating a six year old weiner. You get this, which a friend of mine just forwarded. Finished watching it and instantly popped up a blog entry.
