Geez it's been a long time...
Okay, what have I been doing in the 7 months since I posted to this friggin' thing?
Well, I published an article on Comic Book Cataloging in Serials Review:
"Do You Have Any Ditko?:: Comic Books, MARC, FRBR and Findability". Serials Review.
Volume 34, Issue 3, September 2008, Pages 175-189.
I became a Librarian II, finally.
Started actually doing some "real" cataloging, instead of just that "metadata crap ;-)
Read RDA (yes, all of it), and submitted 6 comments on the bloody thing, including 1 long one that went back and forth with Randall Scott on the Preferred Source of Information for serials. Also submitted a MARBI proposal to reuse the 014, currently the link to bibliographic parts for a Series Authority, since they'll end up being subsumed into the Super-record. Was politely told that while it was a great idea, no one actually had figured out how to catalog serials under FRBR/RDA (I did, just not how to link the records ;-). They will reconsider the proposal at some point in the future...
Ive become kind of a defacto RDA/FRBR authority at work. Now I'm working on having the same happen for Serials ;-)
I'm busily planning out trainings- got Serials training in April and NACO authorization training in March...
And I'm considering writing a pair of books, one on AACR2R cataloging of comic books, with FRBR instructions, one on RDA/FRBR cataloging of comics. Looks like a lot of people will probably stay with AACR2R, at least for Special Collections, so both are necessary. I'm looking to be the new Randall Scott if he retires ;-)
There. Happy?
